Effectiveness of methods used for the detection of sarcosporidiosis in farm animals.
J Gut
Folia Parasitologica 29[4] 289-295 (1982)
Trypsinization and stereoscopy were found to be the most suitable methods for the detection of sarcosporidiosis in farm animals. Sarcocystis cruzi, S. hirsuta and S. hominis were detected in 87% of 200 cattle and S. ovicanis and S. tenella in 92% of 100 sheep examined. The examinations of 200 pigs were negative.

Folia Parasitologica 29[4] 309-313 (1982)
The migration of four roundworm species (Ascaris suum, Toxocara canis, T. cati and Toxascaris leonina) was studied in various organs of experimentally infected white mice. The hatching of T. leonina and T. cati larvae in the paratenic host is more rapid (24-36 h) than the hatching of A. suum and T. canis larvae (1-6 days). The deposition of larvae in host organs is different in the individual species. Maximum number of larvae in the liver: T. leonina and A. suum on day 4, T. canis on day 2 and T. cati on day 1. Maximum number of larvae in the lungs: A. suum and T. leonina on day 7, T. cati on day 2 and T. canis on day 1. Maximum number of larvae in...

Folia Parasitologica 29[4] 351-360 (1982)
A new method was successfully used in collecting the mature larvae of the cattle warble fly by means of woven wire flooring. In laboratory colonies the influence of temperature on pupal development, percentage of hatched adults and sex ratio, weight of pupae and adults, its changes during their life cycle, copulation and survival of adults were studied. Field experiments involved studies on the influence of humidity on the survival of pupae, percentage of hatched adults, duration of the pupal stage in the spring and summer periods. Stability of the total sum of temperatures above the temperature threshold necessary for the development of adult in pupa,...
Chemotherapy and chemoprophylaxis of Angiostrongylus malaysiensis infection in rats with levamisole and mebendazole.

Folia Parasitologica 29[4] 361-364 (1982)
The chemoprophylactic and chemotherapeutic effects of levamisole and mebendazole on Angiostrongylus malaysiensis infection in rats were studied. Both drugs were ineffective in preventing infection while the post-infection treatment showed 100% efficacy. Furthermore, levamisole and mebendazole when given in combination appeared to have an antagonistic effect.
